About My Shop
WELCOME!! My name is Dallas Manicom and I'm the 'artist-artisan' behind this one-person, home-based business.
Beginning in February 2009, at a much later age than most, I began contemplating designing and making handmade greeting cards but I was very hesitant about *wasting* paper.
A woman working at my local scrapbooking shop named Brenda told me not to worry -- the worst I could do was ruin a sheet of paper. Needless to say, it wasn't long before I discovered she was absolutely right!
At that same time, at the urging of some longtime blog friends, I opened my ETSY shop and began by selling crocheted dishcloths and handmade cards.

Development
Time passed and I realized just how much I loved my new paper art hobby! When asked what to call the very 1st butterfly 3D art piece that I created, my
husband coined the phrase *whimsy collage* and it was used for all my initial pieces!
Our old local hospital utilized the long hallways between their emergency department and front entrance as an ART GALLERY and over the years I had stopped to browse many wonderful works of art from local artists.
By September 2010, I had already created several different sized pieces so began to dream of the possibility of one day possibly submitting one of my very own for this local gallery.
That familiar hesitation resurfaced and this time, it was my husband who encouraged me to take chances!
He told me that, "Art, like beauty, is in the eye of the beholder. If I enjoy creating something, there will be those who look at it and feel the same way I do and to them, it'll be art."
I no longer had any excuses! I submitted 3 pieces and just before that show closed in late November 2010, much to my amazement and excitement, I sold my 1st GALLERY piece!!

Growth
2010 was really the year that my love of designing and creating unique and whimsical collages and various types of 3D art really came into its own.
I developed a passion for upcycling and recycling vintage childrens' books as well as other treasured books such as old atlases and classics that I come across while rummaging through thrift shops and used book shops.
I began to search for anything discarded that was made of paper ~ glossy magazines, old calendars, scraps of textured paper ~ from anywhere I could get them -- as they all became excellent sources of materials.
I thoroughly enjoy and welcome Custom Orders and in order to create something unique and very special for a client, I am happy to source out specific vintage books, other materials, quotes, lines of poetry or whatever is needed for a specific project.
I love using textured card stock and wonderfully patterned papers as well as REPURPOSING used and now useless papers and creating something that is literally one of a kind.
Even if I were to use the same titled book again and again, NONE of the cut pieces could ever be duplicated.

About Me Personally
I've been married to my best friend and soul-mate for over 40 years. We have 3 grown children as well as 5 grandchildren that unfortunately live too far away to see on a regular basis.
My heart has literally been *changed* TWICE ~ once in May 1977, when by the grace of God I became a Christian and then again many years later in March 2005 when I miraculously received a transplanted donor heart!
I try to enjoy the magic of ordinary days and remind myself not to wait for special times because I've learned to realize and appreciate that JUST BEING ALIVE IS SPECIAL ♥
