Minding My Own Beeswax - Encaustic Wax Works
ENCAUSTIC {Wax} PAINTING INFO -- for ORIGINALS
I've completed a few ENCAUSTIC collages on solid wood with a mix of beeswax, damar resin and pigment and have applied the encaustic in multitudinous layers which I've fused together with my heat gun.
More often though, I use the European technique developed by Michael Bossom of the UK and use hot tools to paint with my special iron acting as my paint brush. Once cooled, these wax works are impervious to moisture and their luminosity and texture are wonderful.
HOW TO CARE FOR YOUR ENCAUSTIC PAINTING --
Your encaustic art should NOT be displayed in direct sunlight or bright light. Keep it from extreme heat and freezing temperatures which means do not leave it in your car for extended periods.
Sometimes a natural whitish film known as bloom may appear on your art – this is completely natural and using a piece of old pantyhose or very soft tissue can be used to gently polish the surface.
An ideal solution is using a new piece of micro-fibre cloth which is often used to clean eyeglasses ... but PLEASE NOTE – you should RESERVE this soft cloth ONLY for your encaustic paintings and NOT re-use it on your eyeglasses later! Eventually, this white bloom will stop forming, but whenever noticed, your art will look better if it is gently polished.
Always use care when handling original paintings.
Remember that any sharp objects such as fingernails will scratch the surface of the wax
I also offer archival, giclee PRINTS in 3 sizes of all of my original encaustic paintings including those that have been sold. Please contact me or visit the ENCAUSTIC section of my Etsy shop.
